Immunization

All students who attend a school in Ontario must be vaccinated against the following diseases:

  • Diphtheria
  • Tetanus
  • Polio
  • Measles
  • Mumps
  • Rubella (German measles)
  • Meningococcal meningitis
  • Whooping cough
  • Chicken pox (varicella)

International students are required to provide a copy of their vaccination record when enrolling in a program. The Sudbury & District Health Unit needs to know which primary vaccines the student received since birth. While immunization could have occurred at intervals that are quite different from the Ontario schedule, the vaccines themselves must be very comparable. Click here to view the schedule of vaccinations funded by the public sector in Ontario for an idea of which vaccines are required.

A copy of the student’s vaccination dossier will be forwarded for assessment to the Sudbury & District Health Unit immunization program. Students may need additional vaccinations upon arrival in Canada. If need be, the student and/or the legal custodian in Canada may contact the Sudbury & District Health Unit at 705-522-9200.
