Medical and dental care can be very expensive in Canada, as is hospitalization. Our government health insurance plans do not cover international students for these types of expenses. As such, international students are required to purchase health insurance for the duration of their stay.
When applying for admission, international students must pay $820 for a health insurance policy with a very complete level of coverage that is administered by the Great West Insurance Company.
When the student arrives in Canada, he or she will be covered for 12 months and receive a health card that is recognized by 30,000 institutions and healthcare providers throughout Canada, who invoice the insurance company directly for their services.
